Jamil Matheny

Founder & CEO, Photographer

Hi, my name is Jamil Matheny. I specialize in concert, event, fashion, and portrait photography. Since I was in grade school, I have spent a lot of time in the local music scene, going to concerts, events; yet I wanted to capture the photojournalistic approach of human interaction. My peers are artists, photographers, painters, and creative like-minded people.

While in grade school, I passed a photography course and I started shooting images with my parents’ Pentax K-1000 35mm film camera. In that photography class, I learned how to develop film in the dark room. I enjoyed it so much that my teacher gave me an A+ grade and even began helping others in a tutoring class after school. I knew from that point on, I wanted to become a photographer. I’ve traveled across the United States and among other places outside of the U.S. to develop a photojournalist approach to my work. In my adult years, I attend Ashford University for a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I began college with a major in Journalism & Mass Communication and then turned to Business Adminstration. I started Jamil Images, LLC on June 1, 2018 and its improvements are ever-changing. The goal of this web-based platform is to educate photographers, subjects, models of any level about the world of photography.

To me, photography isn’t about ‘taking pictures’. It’s about capturing special moments in life as time allows. I believe that time is the most valuable, precious thing that belong to any individual. It’s all about how you utilize your time; it’s what matters. After all, photography is the study of light and time. In recent years, I have continued to study photography as a hobby and then founded Jamil Images. With this company, I want to capture the best of human-kind’s existence, mentor others who are coming up, and create an awesome, artistic portfolio to showcase my work.

Currently, I shoot with a Nikon DSLR camera with a variety of fast glass. However, I’m not bias of using any other brands; it's just my personal preference. Also, I edit and retouch my own photos at this time. If you would like to book a photo shoot, click this link here to schedule a time and day. Feel free to check out my work here on the gallery and as I continue to shoot my best compositions.
